The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) is the state of Arizona's primary human services agency, headquartered in Phoenix with a statewide presence. With more than 5,000 employees, it serves nearly 3 million individuals and families across a broad portfolio of public assistance and social support programmes.
DES administers a wide range of services including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Nutrition Assistance, Unemployment Insurance, Health Care Services, Child Care Services, and Refugee Resettlement. The agency also provides care for vulnerable populations such as individuals with developmental disabilities and ageing residents, alongside Workforce Development initiatives and Family Caregiver Support.
The agency's stated mission centres on strengthening Arizona by helping residents meet basic needs, improving health and safety, and reducing poverty, food insecurity, and homelessness. Its work spans human services, public health, and workforce development, positioning it as one of the state's largest operational employers in the social services sector.
