Baptist Health Care is a not-for-profit health system headquartered in Northwest Florida and led by the community it serves. Founded in 1951, when Baptist Hospital opened its doors to its first patient on October 17th of that year, it has grown from a single hospital into a comprehensive network operating across Northwest Florida and South Alabama. It is the only locally based and led not-for-profit health system in the area, and one of the largest non-governmental employers in the region.
The system comprises three hospitals, four medical parks, the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, and a broad network of primary care and specialty physicians. Its clinical scope spans hospital care, primary care, specialty physician care, orthopaedics and sports medicine, delivered over more than seven decades of continuous operation.
As a community-founded and community-led organisation, Baptist Health Care states that decisions prioritise local needs rather than a distant corporate headquarters. Its stated mission is helping people throughout life's journey, with an aim of national leadership in quality and service. Technical domains within the system include healthcare delivery, hospital care, primary and specialty care, orthopaedics, sports medicine, and not-for-profit health system management.
