Bernhard LLC is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in the United States, delivering vertically integrated solutions that span engineering, fabrication, mechanical and electrical construction, operations and maintenance, and asset management. The firm was rebranded as ENFRA in May 2025 to reflect its focus on energy and infrastructure and its position in sustainable energy solutions. It employs more than 2,600 people across 28 locations and traces its operating history back more than 100 years; the present company was formed in 2014-2015 when five businesses united under the Bernhard name.
The company pioneered the Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) model, a long-term partnership and concession structure under which it finances, builds and operates energy infrastructure and delivers guaranteed utility savings to customers. The financed project portfolio surpasses $2 billion, with more than 20 EaaS partnerships nationwide and $87 million in guaranteed annual utility savings. By 2021 the firm had closed 15 long-term EaaS partnerships, including what was the largest EaaS concession in U.S. history.
Work is concentrated on customers in healthcare, higher education, hospitality and industrial sectors, with technical domains covering energy infrastructure, sustainable energy solutions and utility savings financing alongside the construction and maintenance disciplines. A majority equity investment from CVC DIF in 2021 supports the business. The company describes a focus on sustainability and on innovation in energy infrastructure delivery.
