Carnegie Robotics, founded in 2010 by John Bares and headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, designs and manufactures rugged autonomous systems and robotics technology built to operate in demanding conditions, including dusty terrain, freezing temperatures and extreme vibration. Its technical work spans autonomy software, stereo vision and computer vision, GNSS-based positioning, body-worn computing and off-road autonomous vehicles.
The company's product line includes MultiSense, a range of stereo cameras; Duro, a line of GNSS receivers; CardShark, body-worn computing systems; and Stallion, an off-road autonomous vehicle platform. Carnegie Robotics reports more than 10m hours of autonomous operations logged across its fleet of robots. The systems are deployed across defense, agriculture, mining, construction, marine, industrial autonomy and warehousing, including operations in war zones.
All design, engineering, manufacturing and quality processes are carried out in-house at ISO 9001:2015 certified facilities, with an emphasis on output meeting military-grade specifications. The company has strategic partnerships with Caterpillar, Boston Dynamics, Nilfisk, DARPA and the U.S. Department of Defense. Ventures spun out of Carnegie Robotics include Uber ATG and Thoro.ai.
