Girls on the Run

About

Founded in 1996, Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization that provides a physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in grades 3 through 8. The program uses running to teach essential life skills and build confidence, serving over 2.7 million girls across more than 160 council locations in North America.

The organization's evidence-based curriculum integrates running to help girls develop confidence, character, and connection, with 97% of participants reporting they learned critical life skills. Additionally, its 5K Event Series, held at the end of each season, is one of the largest such series globally.

Girls on the Run operates primarily in North America, with a headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, and fosters an empowering and inclusive culture focused on positive development and belonging.
