Khan Academy is a nonprofit organisation founded in 2008 to provide a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere. Its online learning platform offers thousands of interactive exercises, videos and articles spanning subjects from kindergarten through early college, including math, science, grammar, history, AP and SAT preparation. Content is designed for self-paced study, both in and out of the classroom, and is used by students, teachers and parents.
The platform reports more than 181 million registered learners across 190 countries. Engineering work is concentrated in online learning platforms and educational technology: interactive exercise systems, video content creation pipelines, and the production and delivery of digital learning content at scale. The organisation also develops AI-based tutoring tools, including Khanmigo, built to support learners and teachers.
Khan Academy's stated focus is on serving learners in historically under-resourced communities. Staff come from academia, traditional and non-traditional education, large technology companies and small startups. The organisation describes its mission as deliberately simple and ambitious, and treats learning about colleagues and oneself as part of that mission.
