Laminar builds an AI-powered platform for liquid manufacturing. The company combines proprietary inline spectral sensors with science-led machine learning models to automate processes such as Clean-in-Place (CIP) and product changeovers on factory production lines. Its sensors capture real-time spectral fingerprints of every fluid passing through pipes and install on existing lines in two to three hours. The resulting data is converted into sub-second decisions that customers' PLCs act on, enabling closed-loop autonomous control.
The engineering work spans machine learning, spectroscopy, real-time data analytics, process automation and industrial IoT integration. Reported outcomes from deployed systems include 15%+ faster CIP cycles, 20% faster changeovers and 10-20% reductions in water, chemical and energy consumption, with full return on investment in under a year.
Customers include Coca-Cola, Danone, AB InBev and Unilever, and the company says six of the top 10 global food and beverage brands use its technology. Laminar was named a 2026 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer and is backed by Greycroft, Construct Capital and 2048 Ventures. It is headquartered at Greentown Labs in Somerville, Massachusetts, and was founded by sister-and-brother team Annie and David Lu.
