Subaru of America, Inc. is the United States automotive arm of the Subaru brand, founded in 1968 and headquartered in Camden, New Jersey. The company designs, assembles and sells Subaru vehicles through a network of more than 600 retailers, supported by eight regional distribution offices, three regional offices and twelve zone offices. Its technical work spans automotive manufacturing, vehicle assembly and sustainable production, with engineering and operations concentrated at its Lafayette, Indiana assembly plant.
That plant employs over 5,600 Associates and operates as a zero-landfill facility - a model of sustainable manufacturing that forms a core part of the company's technical identity. The Subaru Loves the Earth campaign extends this work beyond the factory floor through the Eco-Friendly Retailer Program and a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, under which 165,000 trees have been distributed.
The company describes itself as guided by the Subaru Love Promise, covering community support, sustainability and ethical business practices. Its charitable programmes include the annual Share the Love event, through which the company and participating retailers have donated nearly $320 million over the past 17 years, and the Subaru of America Foundation, established in 1984, which has awarded more than $26 million in community grants, scholarships and matching employee gifts. Employees are referred to as Associates, and corporate, manufacturing and retail roles are spread across locations nationwide.
