Uphold operates a Web3 financial platform that lets individuals and businesses trade, earn and manage digital assets through what it calls an "Anything-to-Anything" experience. The core product supports trading across almost 300 assets - cryptocurrencies, precious metals, tokenized carbon credits and traditional currencies - as well as foreign exchange and cross-border remittance. The company reports more than 10m customers in over 150 countries, and over 120m transactions worth $40 billion.
Beyond the main platform, Uphold's product line includes Uphold Vault, a self-custody storage solution; UpHODL, for holding and earning on digital assets for retail and institutional users; Topper, a fiat-to-crypto on- and off-ramp for accessing the Web3 economy; and the Uphold Debit Card, which allows digital assets to be spent directly.
The engineering work spans blockchain and Web3 infrastructure, fintech, digital asset trading and custody, foreign exchange and cross-border payments, and liquidity aggregation across more than 30 trading venues. Information security and compliance form a further core domain: Uphold is certified to SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and PCI DSS standards.
Transparency and reserve management are unusually prominent in the company's operating model. Uphold maintains 100% reserves of customer assets at all times, states that it never loans them out, and publishes assets and liabilities on a public transparency page every 30 seconds, backed by proof-of-reserves verification.
