Vitalize, founded in 2021, builds an AI-powered operating system for hospital operations. The platform automates staffing, labor planning and capacity management for hospitals, replacing manual, paper- and spreadsheet-based workflows with real-time decision support for clinical leaders. Its software aligns staffing with patient demand and acuity, eliminates manual scheduling work and reduces preventable labor spend in a market where labour accounts for roughly 60% of hospital costs.
The company works across several technical domains of interest to AI practitioners: artificial intelligence and AI-powered decision support, workforce management and scheduling automation, labour planning optimisation, capacity management, and data-driven demand and acuity forecasting. The product integrates with leading HR, payroll and EMR systems, and is live across more than 20 hospitals. Revenue is approaching eight figures.
Vitalize is backed by investors including Y Combinator, though the amount and stage of funding have not been disclosed. The team is composed of ex-founders, ex-clinicians, Ivy League drop-outs and math Olympians. The founders identified the problem firsthand before starting the company in 2021, and the firm describes its mission as making hospital operations safe, autonomous, fair and cost-effective, addressing clinician burnout and poor patient outcomes.
