Whisker Labs develops intelligent electrical sensors and concierge fire-safety services that monitor home electrical networks continuously to detect hazards and prevent electrical fires before they start. Founded in 2015 and based in the United States, the company was created after a cofounder's family member lost a home and a pet to an electrical fire. It works across home safety, insurance, utilities and wildfire prevention.
Its product, Ting, combines a sensor with a subscription service. The system analyses 30 million electrical signals per second to identify the microscopic sparks and arcs that precede nearly all electrical fires, locating hidden hazards in wiring, outlets, devices and utility-supplied power. Detection is paired with a Fire Safety Team of electrical fire-prevention experts who guide homeowners through resolution, alongside a $1,000 credit toward hazard repairs. The company reports that Ting stops four out of five electrical fires and has protected over 1 million homes, preventing more than 25,000 potentially devastating fires.
The engineering work spans electrical signal analysis, sensor hardware, IoT monitoring, real-time data analytics and grid health monitoring. Beyond individual households, the company describes a dual focus: protecting families while strengthening utility infrastructure and grid resilience.
