American Public Media Group (APMG) is a tax-exempt, nonprofit parent support organization founded in 1987 and headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota. It provides administrative, financial, and human resources services to supported nonprofit organizations in public media. Its technical work spans public radio broadcasting, content production and distribution, audio programming and podcasting, classical music programming, and documentary and newsmagazine production.
The group operates through several distinct entities. American Public Media, its production and distribution arm, produces and distributes public radio programming and podcasts heard on 1,000 public radio stations nationwide. Regional operations include Minnesota Public Radio and Southern California Public Radio. Other properties include Marketplace, a daily public radio program covering economic news, and Public Radio Market, which APMG operates under license.
APMG describes itself as the largest station-based public radio organization in the United States. Its stated mission is to provide significant long-term financial strength to the organizations it supports, combining multi-regional station operations with national content creation and distribution to serve audiences across the country.
