Blueland, founded in 2019, produces household cleaning products in tablet and powder form that customers activate with tap water in reusable containers. The model is designed to remove single-use plastic packaging from categories including dishwashing, laundry, hand soap, toilet cleaning and spray cleaners. Its Forever Bottles are refilled at home, replacing the disposable bottles conventional liquid cleaners are sold in.
The company's development work spans tablet and powder formulations, consumer product chemistry and sustainable packaging. It reports 45 patents granted worldwide and a further 39 pending. Products are sold across the United States, and the company received an investment from Kevin O'Leary on Shark Tank.
Blueland reports having diverted more than 1 billion single-use plastic bottles from landfills and oceans and saved 7.5m pounds of CO2. It is a Certified B Corp recognised as "Best for the World" and is Climate Neutral certified. The company was founded by Sarah Paiji Yoo, who has described concerns about microplastic contamination, raised as a new mother, as the impetus for the business.
