Boeing Employees' Credit Union (BECU) is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative headquartered in Tukwila, Washington. Founded in 1935 by a small group of Boeing employees with pooled resources of $9 and a $2.50 loan, it now serves over 1.5 million members and manages more than $30 billion in assets, and is described as one of the nation's leading credit unions.
Its product range spans checking and savings accounts, credit cards, auto and home loans, investment services, trust services and business banking. Alongside these, the BECU Foundation channels scholarships, community grants and community investment, while financial education programmes - seminars, webinars and related initiatives - are run to help people achieve financial health.
As a cooperative, every member is an owner. Earnings are returned to members through better rates, lower fees and community investment rather than distributed to outside shareholders. The organisation describes itself as guided by the credit union philosophy of "people helping people", with a stated focus on inclusion and empowerment and on building a culture in which employees and members can grow and thrive. Its mission centres on improving the financial well-being of its members and communities across the United States.
