DoubleZero, founded in 2024, builds a purpose-built decentralized network layer designed to increase bandwidth and reduce latency for blockchain and distributed systems. The approach combines two mechanisms: filtering junk data that degrades the performance of validators and network operators, and routing traffic across a global mesh of underutilized private fibre links. The company treats infrastructure as software, applying proof-of-stake principles and novel reward mechanisms to the physical network itself.
The DoubleZero Protocol is the core system. It reports more than 8.8 terabits per second of capacity and carries roughly 37% of Solana's stake. Development of the technical components sits with Malbec Labs; the DoubleZero Foundation drives adoption and decentralisation of the network. Technical work spans networking, low-latency distributed systems, fibre-optic mesh networking, decentralised protocols, bandwidth optimisation and traffic filtering - areas with direct relevance to AI workloads and real-time applications alongside blockchain infrastructure.
DoubleZero raised $28 million at a $400m valuation. Its presence is global, matching the geographic spread of its fibre mesh. The company describes its mission as removing fundamental infrastructure bottlenecks in blockchain performance, and its founder, Austin Federa, was formerly Head of Strategy at the Solana Foundation. Industry verticals served include blockchain, artificial intelligence, real-time applications and validator or node-operator infrastructure.
