Fly.io operates public-cloud infrastructure on its own hardware across more than 18 global regions, allowing customers to deploy applications and AI workloads close to their users. Much of its recent work concerns running AI agents and untrusted code. Sprites is the company's product for this purpose, and Fly.io also builds agent-oriented command-line interfaces and MCP servers, alongside hardware-isolated compute instances called Fly Machines.
The wider platform covers Managed Postgres, Private Networking, Autoscaling, zero-downtime deployments and monitoring. Technical work spans cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, networking, databases and deployment automation, with an emphasis on memory-safe systems. Engineering groups of two to four people own product areas independently; there is no traditional product-management structure.
The company is fully distributed and remote-first, and operates asynchronously, with heavy use of writing and documentation to share decisions, technical work and customer problems. Support is engineering-led: support engineers write code and help customers diagnose networking, deployment and infrastructure issues.
