Level99 is a destination for real-world, social, challenge-based entertainment designed for adults. Each venue functions as a sprawling playground of over 50 life-sized mini-games and real-world challenges, where players dodge axes, crack puzzles and outsmart physical and mental obstacles. Games last 1-4 minutes, with progress saved in the manner of a video game and leaderboards that players climb across repeat visits - an infrastructure of persistent player profiles, scoring and gamification underpins the experience.
Three ways to play structure the venue: collaborative Challenge Rooms, in which teams of 2-6 players work through themed challenges to earn stars; competitive Player-vs-Player Duels; and Hunt Art, an interactive art scavenger hunt that runs throughout the space. Technical work spans immersive and experiential attraction design, game design and gamification, physical and mental challenge mechanics, video-game-style progress saving and leaderboards, and the technology behind the scavenger hunt. Each venue also houses a restaurant and bar serving scratch-cooked food, local craft beers and handmade cocktails.
Founded in 2021, Level99 opened its inaugural venue in Natick, MA, and now operates in Natick, Providence, RI, and Tysons, VA, with five further locations announced in Disney Springs, FL, West Hartford, CT, King of Prussia, PA, Paramus, NJ, and Raleigh, NC. The founding team originated 5 Wits and is credited with launching the first escape room-style concept in 2004; team experience ranges from 5 Wits to Walt Disney Imagineering. The company is backed by Act III Holdings, led by Panera founder Ron Shaich.
