Mass General Brigham is an integrated healthcare system based in New England, combining patient care delivery, medical research and clinical trials across a network of 18 hospitals. The system comprises two academic medical centers, five nationally ranked specialty hospitals and 11 community hospitals, and cares for approximately 2.5 million patients a year. Five of its hospitals were ranked in U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals 2025-2026.
Research is a substantial part of the organisation. Mass General Brigham operates one of the largest hospital system-based research enterprises in the United States, with an annual research budget of nearly $2 billion and more than 3,700 clinical trials under way. Its stated purpose in research is to accelerate the translation of new treatments and therapies to patients worldwide.
The system describes its culture as uniting researchers and clinicians to address difficult problems in medicine, with commitments to patient-centred care, accessible and equitable care, and continuous improvement in care delivery. Its work spans healthcare delivery, hospitals, medical research, academic medicine and life sciences, with a geographic reach extending from local New England communities to patients treated globally.
