Outsmart is a startup founded in 2024 to build an entirely new collegiate experience for the age of AI. The company's stated aim is to expand access to higher education for students worldwide, making quality college-level education more affordable and accessible through AI-powered learning. It operates on the premise that college-level education is a fundamental human right.
The company has raised $38m in total funding, with backing from Khosla Ventures, DST Global Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Forerunner. Its founding team previously led user growth at Duolingo from 3 million to 200 million users. Jorge Mazal, formerly Duolingo's chief product officer, serves as chief executive; Daniel Falabella is chief product officer and Gina Gotthilf is chief marketing officer.
Technical work centres on AI-powered learning experiences, machine learning applied to education, large-scale consumer learning platforms and product development at scale. The company's main product, an AI-powered collegiate experience, is in development. Its focus is global, with a student base spanning worldwide markets, and its operating approach applies Duolingo-style engagement mechanics to higher education.
