Golden 1 Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative headquartered in Sacramento, California. Founded in 1933 by 11 state employees, it was created by and for public workers and now serves more than 1.2 million members across the state. The institution holds more than $21 billion in assets and operates more than 70 branches.
Its business is credit union banking delivered on a cooperative model: profits are returned to members through better rates, lower fees and enhanced services rather than distributed to shareholders. Members also have access to a nationwide network of over 30,000 CO-OP ATMs. The company operates under the credit union philosophy of "people helping people" and welcomes all Californians to join.
Beyond its financial services, Golden 1 holds the naming rights partnership for the Golden 1 Center, downtown Sacramento's entertainment and sports arena. Community investment is a stated priority: the organisation contributes nearly $600K annually to California nonprofits and has awarded nearly 500 college scholarships to students. Its stated mission is to empower members, uplift communities and work towards a more equitable and financially inclusive Golden State.
