The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) is the global governing body for disc golf and a 501(c)(4) nonprofit membership organisation founded in 1976. Headquartered in Appling, Georgia, it maintains the sport's official rules, its worldwide player ratings system, and technical standards for discs, targets and equipment. Its work rests on sizeable structured datasets: the PDGA Player Ratings System rates player skill worldwide, while registration and membership systems cover more than 300,000 lifetime members.
Operationally, the PDGA sanctions thousands of events each year, certifies courses, and administers player registration and membership. Technical domains include sports governance and officiating, player ratings and handicap systems, technical equipment standards, tournament sanctioning and management, course certification, and membership management. These functions combine rule-based scoring, statistical rating computation and large-scale event and record management.
The association reaches 54 countries, with regional arms including PDGA Europe, PDGA Canada and the PDGA Asia Tour. It has operated for more than 45 years. The organisation is volunteer-driven, with hundreds of volunteers supporting a dedicated staff, and describes itself as player-run, serving players from absolute beginners to world champions.
