Unifonic works at the intersection of conversational AI and customer experience, building the messaging infrastructure that lets enterprises talk to their customers at scale. Its engineering agenda spans conversational AI, omnichannel communication and SaaS platform engineering, applied to personalisation and reliability across business messaging channels including SMS and the WhatsApp Business API. The company's Customer Engagement Platform handles more than 10 billion transactions a year.
Founded in 2006 by brothers Ahmed and Hassan Hamdan while they were still students, Unifonic began as an SMS reseller intended to overcome the limitations of GSM handsets for business-customer communication in the Middle East. It has since grown into a regional SaaS company headquartered in Saudi Arabia, and in 2019 became the first WhatsApp Business Solution Provider in the Middle East. The firm raised $125m in a Series B round.
Unifonic serves more than 5,000 businesses across 160 countries, with customers in banking and financial services, government and the public sector, retail, healthcare and the wider enterprise market. Its team of over 500 professionals operates from six countries. Product design places emphasis on cultural fluency and regional understanding, reflecting the company's stated mission of helping enterprises build lasting customer connections.
